The Wedding Ring

It is nearly ten years on
Since you have been gone
And I still wear the ring you gave me.
Like a thread through time
That links me daily with you.
It’s an heirloom I suppose,
Something not mine
That means less to others
As time passes by.
Something I’ll hand down
To a child not yet born
About a grandfather they never knew.
