Autumn Approaches

The leaf feels a little more yellow
Instead of vibrant, living green.
And the Prop’s Department have been busy
Concocting the perfect setting for the latest scene.
The wind’s rustling sounds like an expectant crowd,
Then comes the hush – the light grows dim.

The atmosphere plays the percussion part,
Variations on a theme.
We may fear the crescendo,
But there is wonder in the season –
When it gets loud.

Moments with you
Are like fleeting glimpses of colour
In a black and white world.
An alternate reality
Seen out of the corner of the eye.
A mystery,
A dream,
Acted out on a silver screen.
You are the warmth of the summer sun
After the cold of the winter’s rain.
You are a kaleidoscope of experience
Come battering down my door.
A heartbeat,
Only fleeting
And an embrace
Which fades to memory
Too soon.

The Game is Life

The wheel is set spinning
And the future becomes the past.
The fates have decided blindly
If destiny should treat you kindly,

If your innocence should last.
But if the universe has an underpinning,
If there is but one golden rule,
It is that the gods play dice with you.

In the end you can never win
Because whatever strategy you choose
They’ve seen it all before
They’ve predicted every score.

Because heads they win, tails you lose.
The scales of justice have weighed your every sin.
For the gods take pleasure in being cruel.
Beware for the game is rigged when the gods play dice with you.

Falling Out With Gravity

I can go on no more

With this merry-go-round orbit

While waiting on your pleasure.

Waiting for the moment when you and the stars align

And you make a decision

If we will part or go on together.

Am I to become your satellite?

In the grip of your embrace,

Warmed by the light of your sun.

Or am I to be hurled out into the void,

The frigid dark between the stars,

To wander alone for millennia.

The return of the rain
Brings me to life again.

The touch of this holy water
Upon my skin
Washes me clean
Lets me begin once more.

The passion of the raindrops
Freefalling to the ground
Is the baptism of hope I need
So that I feel born again.

It resurrects a faith
That had all but died.

I feel rain, I feel alive.

Random Love Tricks

She is not here, she is gone.
Just a mirage at the oasis for the lovesick.
Only a temporary delusion
That she ever could have existed in this world,

In my world.
In the barren desert of my heart.
In the endless silence
Between the heartbreaks

That in the infernal night
Wraps me tight within its arms.
Because I’m alone
For she is gone.

There is no horizon only now.
No future, no past
Only the moment while it lasts.
Then forgotten,
Like dust dancing in the sunlight
With no memory of how
It came to be there.
Like raindrops
That fall earthwards
Hurtling down towards the embrace of the ground
Not knowing if there is a purpose
To existence.

I am the wolf,
I am the moon;
A shadow of silver light,
Assassin of darkness

The emissary of night.
My blood lust religion,
The sacred will to survive.
I will fight to survive.

I am the wolf,
I am the moon,
I pray the day
Won’t come too soon.
