A poem for making sense of the silence …

Hush
Is the sound
I am longing to hear.
A quantity of silence,
To hold back the roar of the flood,
A moment of reflection
Before the dam breaks.
Hush
Is the sound
I am longing to hear.
When all that exists
Is the rush of blood in the vein,
The howl of the winds
And the bitter irony of the rain.
Hush
Is the sound
I am longing to hear.
A chance to shut out the dark,
A reason to give up the fight.
To extinguish the flame,
To close my eyes to the sight.
Hush
Is the sound
I am longing to hear.
But I fill up the moments
With a cacophony of voices.
To drown out the thoughts
That fill me with dread.
