How I Wish You Were Here

Wish you happiness,
Wish you content,
I wish you everything you’ve ever wished for.
But I wish, how I wish,

Wish you luck and joy,
Wish you success,
More of everything your heart desires.
So many wishes for more.

Wish you no more tears
To cry. No sorrows;
And I wish, how I wish, to protect you from harm.
I’m wishing you were near…

But instead
I’m wishing you goodbye…

Something and Nothing, Undefined

It’s not a man and women thing
That’s too grown up by far.
It’s all about a boy and a girl
Walking hand in hand,
Staring up at the dark sky
Wishing on something far away,
Wishing on something fine.

Noughts and Crosses

Holy symbols
Scratched on the walls.
Hieroglyphs, secret codes,
Graffito manifestos
Passed
Like wisdom of the ancients.
Entombed in this mausoleum
With its cracked mirrors and broken tiles,
Where everyone sooner or later
Comes to call.

Miss Narcissus

This friendship is a one-way mirror between us.
While I’m always seeing you clearly
Your vision is filled with your own face
And a world of your own needs
That’s being reflected right back at you.

Cold, Lonely

The sun has a special intensity this time of year
As if she knows that if she did not shine today:
A “if not now, then when” mentality
To squeeze every last ounce of romance
From this brief affair, before she is gone
And we are alone with harsh winter, again.

Bone Envy

I cannot feel jealous of your success
There is no spark of resentment in my soul.
Others may whisper the triumph is undeserved
But I cannot feel envy of you in my bones.
Because I’ve seen how it looks on you
It suits you fine, but I know

I would feel unnatural in your clothes.
For they would itch and scratch, not fit my skin.
Your Master’s robe would hang upon my bones, but not shine within.
The seeds of triumph, would be stolen not rightly sown.
So I will wait, grow a glory of my own.

Anticipation

Glory be to the moment
The ecstasy of not knowing
Just anticipating
And hesitating
On the threshold of a room.
For eyes to lock
And imagination to unfold
Into a dream,
When I see you again.

Black Rose Inkings

Black rose inked on lily-white skin
Can’t hide your translucent soul.
I see through the façade
To the petals within, petals
Blowing in the wind. Transitory,
Illusory, your beauty
Something you don’t believe in.
Something you don’t realise
Is carried within.

One Too Many Lies (Tumbleweed)

You are shackled now
No time for regrets, only fools
Would have contemplated
That the dice would have rolled
Any different way for you.
The time for changing
Was more than a million lies ago
Back when your suit was new
And your smile hadn’t lost its shine.

And you wonder why everybody is disbelieving,
When all the prophets are leaving
On the night train and the red eye.
Heading out of town and back to their rooms
To close the curtains, shut out the light.
When your alabaster countenance
Is bending and sagging under the weight
Of the fight. When the lies you’ve told are stacking up
To a million and one too many lies.

I want to be in a steady state
Once in a while.
To take a break from the up and down,
The rollercoaster of fear and forgotten dreams
And shattered plans. Once in a while.

Not taking it all lying down.
Not a unicycle loop the loop
But a steady state at a steady rate
Not speeding up and slowing down
On a steep incline through life.
