Dark Seas

The girl with the blue sky eyes is looking at me
From across the darkened room. A heat haze
Of emotion flickers like a lighthouse
Beam of day, as we catch each other’s gaze.
We share a smile, exchange a faint glimmer of
Recognition. Two islands that used to be one
Until the dark seas intervened and the current
Forced us to drift further and further apart.

Empty Cages

We went to the zoo today.
We saw the cockroaches at play.
Elephant and rhino have gone,
Of the panda there is only one.
Empty cages in the zoo today.

In the Pit of My Stomach

In the dark of the night time
In the cold of my bed
In the moments in between
When the feelings are raw.
When my mouth is slowly drying
And the words rot in my throat.
And the dreams are dying
Like autumn leaves falling in the breeze.
And I can’t unfeel what I’ve felt before.
And my belief is crumbling,
Oh so many nights of tears and dust.
Then there’s this feeling I get
In the pit of my stomach.
A chill like a knife blade
Twisting within my spirit and guts.
When I’d scream

If screaming counted for much.

Padlocks and Chains

Where did the wall come from
Did I build it to keep the hordes out,
Or did the world build it
To keep me locked in.
Is it illusory, is it real?
Am I awake, is this a dream –
Is this a nightmare of my own choosing;
Will anyone help me to become free?

Wish Upon

Sky searching, scanning the horizons of night
For a glowing ember of yesterday
To pin my hopes upon.
While the darkness is wrapped about me
Like a blanket, for the unbroken hours until the dawn.

Summer Blues

Blue notes cry
From inside the bar
Out across the bay.
The summer heat
About to break,
As thunder calls
On the rain
To wash the streets.
To sweep away
The worries of the everyday,
That never touch
This foreign shore
This island floating
In impossibility.

Turn

I wish I could have held you there
Half way down the stair
When you turned back and looked my way.
Captured your likeness in the fleeting moment
When the dawn light shone upon your hair
And the dust motes danced a halo about your silhouette.
For you’ve never looked more wonderful
Than on the day you went away.

Moving On

London calling, clarion sound;
Sweet perfume
Of the dirty old river.
Suburban debris
That flows to your heart,
Like so much flotsam and jetsam
Caught in the whirlpools.
These eddies within crowds
That cry out.
But don’t know
What it is to be free.

The Deal

Is it cruelty that prompts you
To withhold your touch,
To walk away, renege on the deal.

Or is this just a dance?

Are there steps I should know
If I desire to pull you close.
If I want you to hold.

Maybe Next Time

Maybe next time
Another place
Just not here.

Maybe tomorrow
A kiss
Instead of tears.

Maybe the sun will shine
On the other side,
Not on me
But that lucky guy.

Maybe another life,
A new beginning,
For this boy, but under
A different sky.
