Scrabbling around,
Scrabbling around for something
Down there in the dirt.
In amongst the entrails and the detritus.
And from nothing creating,
Creating something to hold onto –
Believing in a something.
We are making,
Recreating –
Holding on to something
Drawing shadows out of the night.

Motion/Still

The memory fades away like the rain
Or a dream upon waking.
Just a dream, even a dream of pain;
Its shadow will pass
No matter the length of the shadow cast.

It dissipates as the dawn breaks
And the sun rises even against the moon’s will.
Yes the world goes spinning on
Despite all the tears cried against the tide,
Motion wins still.

Midnight Wandering

Not a breeze stirs the waters.
Time seems frozen by this summer heat
As sweat wraps me in its sickly embrace.
I’ve gone walking at this midnight hour
In the shadows beneath the trees.
I’ve gone searching, searching for something
I can’t remember. Yet I know I’m lost.

I travel alone through this desert
Though my companions are many.
The silent stones around this oasis
Weep tears into the water

While moonlight glistens upon my fears.
False memories, these heartbeat melodies
Are the ghosts listening outside the circle
Beyond the fire glow, out in the dark

Shadows of the night. These desert sands,
An hourglass with eternity running out
A warrior’s fight with demons not of his making,
Surround me becoming part of my being.

I travel in silence, but never alone
While comfort and solace lurk round the oasis.
The darkness relents with the kiss of the dawn,
Earth rotates and day begins again.

Day 14 of the 30 Reblogs of November
The second of today’s double-header and a little essay on the wonders of trying to be a writer.

Made of sticks and stones

How can a solo pursuit have turned into the most social thing I do? Well simply through being something I am passionate (stroke obsessional) about.

You try it, spend a day or even an hour with someone who is passionate about anything be it real ale, steam trains or rare orchids; whatever it is they won’t be able to stop themselves from shoehorning their little hobby into the conversation. Of course this can be very tedious for the non-believers in their lives, which in turn forces the obsessive to put on their anorak and head out into the world (or virtual equivalent) to find fellow enthusiasts with whom they can bond.

So why is writing my passion. Well, it allows me to join the random thoughts that pop into my head together – not necessarily into a coherent narrative; but still something bigger and stronger.

Writing is also I believe making me a more resilient person too; a gift pursuing anything creative can give anyone. Because for a passion you are willing to step out of the shadows and share what you believe in. Some might scoff but let them, because you if you speak about your solo pursuit, you can bet you will find someone out who is willing to share and make it a social thing.
